Accounting Standards Improvements

This summary of Accounting Standards Board (AcSB) projects has been prepared for information purposes only. Decisions reported are tentative and reflect only the current status of discussions on this project, which may change after further deliberations by the AcSB. Decisions to publish Handbook material are final only after a formal ballot process.

In January 2003, the AcSB approved a project proposal to amend and improve certain parts of the Handbook that are no longer relevant, are incomplete, or contain unjustified inconsistencies with US and International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) GAAP, or where there may be questions of style, lack of specificity, or effectiveness that warrant consideration.  Sections identified to be considered for improvement are summarized in the attached document [updated October 2006]. Links to information about projects on which work has been undertaken are provided below.

Due Process

This project is being undertaken in several stages and will not address issues that are more appropriately dealt with in other major projects.

The AcSB staff requested comments (PDF) by May 31, 2003 on additional improvements that might be made to the Handbook Sections listed in the attached document.

Proposals will be issued for 60-day comment periods.  The project is expected to be completed in 2008.
